solarpunk table 2075 is an invitation to imagine desirable futures through a shared meal amidst collaborative speculative imagining.

What would we be eating in a regenerative 2075?

The shared meal is accompanied by a speculative story [the guidebook]; one composed of scenarios and series of events that bring us towards a regenerative year 2075. Invited guests have an active role; they are required to engage with this story prior to taking a seat at the table, and they are also invited to embody their 2075 self.

The dinner holds a menu that has been developed solely from local ingredients - speculation and extrapolation from scientific findings are at the center of the food design; the menu provides a grounded and multi-sensorial experience of this regenerative future.

Between each course and with suggestive prompts in the menu, the actively participating guests are invited to reflect on varying questions and discuss them collectively to help them shape their vision of this 2075.

solarpunk table 2075 is an artwork and a replicable framework; one that hopes to inspire varying iterations in order to start many more conversations and to help us embody desirable futures. Being able to imagine possible futures is the first step in going towards them.

We invite you to use the guidebook, to throw a dinner party: You can design a menu with ingredients from your locality that would make sense in a regenerative 2075, and invite your guests to reflect and imagine these regenerative futures together!

Our imagined future is collective, collaborative and fluid.

I started imagining solarpunk table 2075 because I wanted to craft an experience that could help us ground in positive environmental-futures; futures that are still possible if we choose them now. Food is an integral part of our daily lives; despite it sometimes being considered a background character, food lies at the core of our existence on this planet and remains interconnected with wider environmental issues.

In a future where we choose and act towards regenerative ways of living, what would a shared meal look like in 2075?

My practice centers the encouragement of hopeful environmental narratives through innovative sustainable project design, implementation & scale-up, organizing, community building and the cultivation of creative projects. I embrace engagement in community work, permaculture and circular economy at large. My work is powered by Joy and Radical Imagination, not as dismissal of the different crises and emergencies we currently live through, but rather as the positioning of Joy and Imagination as acts of resistance, systems of care, antidotes to apathy and catalysts for new narratives to emerge.

I imagined solarpunk table 2075 as a way of generating joyful glimpses of possible futures.
As my imagined futures are collaborative, I knew I wanted to reach out to others for this artwork.
solarpunk table 2075 was therefore birthed in collaboration with Aurelie Calou (34) and Mati Jhurry (32).

Aurelie Calou is an intuitive chef exploring and re-interpreting local Mauritian food heritage. She was an essential voice in designing the various meals for solarpunktable 2075: all recipes were developed and accomplished with fully local ingredients from the salt, to the oil, to the star ingredients - everything was sourced and produced on Mauritius Island.

Mati Jhurry is an artist and cultural worker whose practice investigates the commodification of care - making art through performance, investigation, video, sculpture and collaborative practices in search of new narratives of decolonization. Mati is the co-founder of resort; a collective, a container of care for artists by artists, born in Mauritius and fuelled by gestures towards decolonial futurity in the local island territory and amidst global contexts.

resort, its members and its wider collective network enabled the project solarpunk table 2075 to come to life; We collectively laid down the framework to ground and initiate this project - yet the participation and imaginings of each guest at the table is what allows the artwork to emerge.

Shared meals have always been a primary common ground for community, reflections and kin-making. We hope solarpunk table 2075 is carried out in future iterations, nourishing both our bodies and imaginations; helping us ground these generative and regenerative food futures.

  • In the speculative fiction of the solarpunk table 2075, many of the speculated 'events' that bring a 2075 are referenced through actual present solutions and resources are cited.

For example, one is the Rights Of Nature movement.
